OEM control arms, upgraded the right way. These S30Z front lower control arms have been modified in-house by ZSM Custom using high-quality metric heim joints, complete with rubber boots to keep dirt and grime out. The goal: OEM+ — all the geometry, none of the flex.

Built to stock length to preserve factory geometry, these arms eliminate the compliance of the aging OEM rubber bushing without changing track width or camber. The result is a more persistent alignment under lateral loads and braking — exactly what performance driving demands.

Why Heim Joints?

After years of street, canyon, and track driving on OEM rubber bushings, we noticed significant flex once performance alignment settings and tension rods were dialed in. The bushing was working well past its original design intention — accelerating wear and introducing unwanted compliance. Solid rod ends eliminate that variable entirely.

On track at Willow Springs, the difference was immediate. The front end became noticeably more stable under braking, allowing for more effective threshold braking. That was a benefit we didn't fully anticipate — and it was significant.

A Note on NVH

We understand the hesitation around rod ends and NVH. We shared it. But after experiencing a full spherical R35 build firsthand, we came to a clear conclusion: a quality damper and tire choice have a far greater effect on ride quality than the bushing type. It's about balance and intended use — and for performance-oriented S30Z builds, solid rod ends are the right tool.
